Paintball war with friends.
One of my friends and I are designing homemade paintball weapons to fight with. He currently has many more teammates than I do, and I need to design some weapons to give me the upper hand.
I am already going to use homemade paintballs.
These are the things that I already have designed, or am going to use:
1.) a spring powered combat rifle. It has sights, can be reloaded quickly, and should have decent range and accuracy. It is also capable of using either a hopper for regular paintballs, or an "ammo tube", which which lets it use 1.5 inch by 2 inch ammunition, which are most likely going to be larger cylinder paintballs, or shotgun style paintball ammunition.
2.) A spring-powered cannon, which uses a 3-inch wide barrel. This would shoot either homemade smoke bombs, or very large paintballs.
3.)a landmine. It has a button on top that, when pressed, fires small spring-powered guns that shoot several small paintballs out of each.
I just need some more ideas. I have an idea for a hand-cranked machine gun, but I am having trouble figuring out how to give it sufficient power without making a large crank to pull the springs back a large amount.

PVC piping, except for the springs and launch mechanism. Those would be made out of metal and a very smooth plastic.

Well, I can't really use blowguns. I have asthma.
Also, they aren't the best choice are they? Wouldn't they be shorter ranged that a spring launched gun?

Paintball trebuchet! XD
Is spring the only allowed power source? If not, you can certainly launch paintballs with a flywheel attached to a motor.
I'm interested in knowing how you make paintballs by yourself.

Re: Paintball war with friends.
I'll just make a mould out of wood or Styrofoam, then pour in melted plastic. Once the plastic is almost completely hardened, I will poke a hole in it, put paint in, then cover the top.
Ta-da! paintball.
Also, spring power is not the only allowed power source. there aren't really any rules to what you can use. My friend is actually making a paintball gun that shoots flaming paintballs.
Don't worry, his design will most likely backfire. It uses a flammable lubricant which coats the ball as it leaves the barrel, which is then lit by a lighter hanging off of the end. I think that it's just gonna set the inside of his barrel on fire.
I don't really understand what you are talking about when you say "a flywheel attached to a motor". How will that fire paintballs with any knd of accuracy or range

Re: Paintball war with friends.
that would generate enough useable energy, which can be used to power a mechanism, maybe through a clutch.
i really hope the subtle moment of inertia transfer doesn't throw the gun in a random(or not) direction.

Oh ok.
Well, I don't really want to use anything expensive at all. All of my designs are in the 5-10 dollar price range. I am trying to come up with the cheapest but most effective I can.
One thing I was thinking about was a "sound grenade". Basically it is just some mega loud speaker thing that you would throw at your enemies, causing them pain, or at least flustering them.

Maybe, you could make a gun that is like a mechanical pencil so that if someone gets close you can get them quickly.

Re: Paintball war with friends.
I don't think I would need a special weapon for when they get close. I'll just shoot them with my combat rifle.
One thing I do nee, however, is something with extremely long range. I have a design for a paintball sniper rifle that uses compressed air and has a rifled barrel, but I don't think I could afford the air tank and the compressor for it.

Now THAT is awesome! I'll just turn it 90 degrees, and add a barrel to the entire thing, and a hopper.
I'll also hook it up to be crank powered, with an arm brace so I can hold the entire thing with one arm, and crank with the other.

I looked up how to do that, but I would need a vacuum cleaner small enough to fit on my back, yet powerful enough to propel large amounts of paintballs at a high rate.

@bwansy:i don't think that would work with paintballs.

Re: Paintball war with friends.
It should work if I add a little panel onto either side so that it doesnt fly out the sides. I might make special, smaller paintballs for this one as well to prevent jamming. I tested it on a 2D physics simulator called Phun and it worked quite well.

Re: Paintball war with friends.
As nice as Phun is, I don't think it could provide a realistic enough simulation, especially since it's 2D. Interesting Idea, though; a paintball minigun... I feel like making one now...

Dyson, the small one, it may be expensive to produce, but the posibilities...whoa...

lol. I thought of that.
I actually found ouyt the other day that we have a shop vac in a box in the living room XD.
But my parents won't let me use it .

Would it be perchance the fact you'll be destroying it(?) for comedic use? xD
Re: Paintball war with friends.
I wouldn't need to destroy it.
I just strap it to my back, set it to blow, attach an barrel and a hopper, and I have a rapid fire, long range, uber powerful paintball gun.

Ahhh, I though Vacuums sucked air... unless I'm mistaken... How would that work?
Re: Paintball war with friends.
I thought that shop-vacs could be set to blow.
