Questions
Ok, just a few questions that I have been brewwing in my head.
1) Is this fourum linked to the development team in anywayk?
2) no ofence meant or anything, but the .orz server seems to be down, if anything had happened to tothe devs in the japinise earthquake, wuat would happen to RC, do we have acsess to the source code?
3) would RC go open sorce any time soon?
4) has anyone thoght of indieDB, we could put files up on it and list ourselves as the english comunity trying to get more attention.
If not I would happily put us yp and maintain the page.
There. is also modDB.
5) does anybody know if the game is. still being developed?

Re: Questions
1-no.
2-no. orz is not related to the developers either, and no.
3-i don't think so
4-we use pastebin instead.
5-last version is 1.5B26(beta - last stable version is 1.2), but its been released on 2006. so i think the development progress has stopped. fan-made(lol) models and scenarios are still being made though.

Re: Questions
Indie/ModDB would be more for publicity, and i think it would give us a boost.
As for the game, is there anyway we could get hold of the source, I couldn't bare this game being left to rot, dies anybody know if we could get hold of the source, any emails, anything!
RC is one of the best game i have ever played, I don't think it should die yet.
LONG LIVE RIGIDCHIPS.
lol

Re: Questions
I've been wondering about it myself. If we go to the main site from the RC developer(s), we can probabily get in touch with them, but what could happen is its an old program they dont have anymore or not in english. Either way its worth a shot.
----------------------------------------------------------
Its a good idea to post other forums and have a specific group of people to update it(them) compaired to multiposting. And the option of limiting codes so they have to visit this site for full chip resources.
Meaning we have a chip of the week/bi-weekly/ month and post it on the other forum(s) to nudge them here.
I am not in vote to limit all access to our chips but it would also be a good idea that we have basic chips available to guest but you have to sign up to see all of them. I offer my Val based chips.
Good ideas or not so good ideas

Re: Questions
Chip of the week, good idea, we could make the websklite visulise the milodels like rcd.
Posting on other fourms, bad idea, in my experience, most fourums doint want stuff not rellated to the thing the fourm is about.
Ok. Heres my plan.
1)dig up a few email addresses, transslate messages to jappanese. Send messages, ask for source code and any other recsouces.
2) if step 1 is sucsesfull, make, mod/indieDB page.
3) get the name of this fourum changed to RC English Dev Fourm.
There is a very slim chance of this working.
Also, if we take ownership of the game, I would digest a Open Source GPL License.
And I think we should change the logo.
Post ant email addresses or links here.

Re: Questions
Guys guess what, i got a reply from Takeya
----------------------------------
Hi
I think your offer to be a very glad.
However, I actually have other plans.
Maybe, I will be able to show the software in April. It looks like RigidChips.
I wish to express my gratitude for your expectation.
Yours sincerely
Yasuhiko TAKEYA
P.s. Japan has received serious damage now. the Orz seems to take a rest in preparation for the rolling blackout.
---------------------------------------------
It is a bit of translation but it is ok!
From what i can make out, he will be doing something in april.

Re: Questions
I hope that when April comes around, its the program that he/they used will be posted for others to use or to buy. Either way, positive feed back will come around soon. =D
Thanks Hellome for the letter and translation.

Re: Questions
None at all. It's just a working release intended to show the most basic features, most of which are subject to change.
Re: Questions
hm....I like the way this looks, Is there any chance they could add a feature which can take RC models and change them into Laputan blueprints? later

Re: Questions
I doubt. The model format in LB is utterly different from that of RC's. By format, I'm not talking about the text format of the files, but the way models are composed.
Re: Questions
More questions from me.
What's going on here? I'm confused.

Re: Questions
@supershade: it's like lego. the blocks are 10cm tall by default, but you can change it using the bricolager, whicn can edit block heights, material, and so on.
you can use the joints to attach blocks vertically(or horizontally by placing the joints on the edges(which will make the objects to fixate themselves on their center)). they can also be edited to become powered.
lua scripts can be added using the lubricator(but i don't know LB's lua library to its full extent, and i don't think anyone else than takeya does).
@madbob2: basically hellome tried to spread the word about rigidchips, and in an attempt to get the source, ended up stumbling on what it became(Laputan blueprints), which is that game bwansy was talking about.

Re: Questions
(O.O") Whoa wait up, is this like Rigidchips 2?! Or a Update to a completely different kind of simulation?? I guess 1.5B26 went out the window or something, unless we format LB it to make compatible chips, that or update or scrap and rebuild the .exe
My mind is officially blown any which way!

Re: Questions
What?? A new rigidchips-like game from Takeya??? Wow. Mind-blowing.
EDIT:Anyone noticed that there's a page on the new LB website that says that 'LB is based off of RigidChips 1.5" or something like that? He also confirms that RC will no longer be developed.
EDIT2: Wow, releases are coming out fast, 1.0.2 is out (bugfix). He also released the Lua documentation in an excel file about... 4 minutes ago??
EDIT3: Looking through the lua documentation, many of the functions are similar to RC, but there are many new functions that have HUGE potential. (like drawing 3D text, triangles, cylinders, blend mode, specular colour, etc.)
EDIT4: (wow 4 edits O.o) Well... I've looked at LB a bit now, the file format apparently uses XML instead of anything similar to RC. I believe that if chips were to be translated into uniform boxes in LB, RC models could probably be translated to work with LB. Wheels could be short & fat cylinders with rotating attachments, chips could be boxes, frames could be... translucent boxes with no air friction, etc. I'm guessing that sooner or later a native translator will be provided by Takeya or a 3rd party translator will be developed.
I like the fact that LB has a built-in graphical editor. It's easier for people to learn, but the 2D blueprint to 3D vehicle transition is fun. Oh, by the way, LB uses the same .x files for land, I believe. Several unchangable things can now be changed, like water level (!). Vehicles can be rendered as wireframes too. Some things never change, like [R] and [U] and [Y] buttons.

Re: Questions
I do believe I have the right to go...
Its a joke when I'm too speechless for actual words
Now hold a minute, Takeya made a new simulator where we can literaly build a 'chip' ( please don't become an old term!!) any shape we want?! Holy mothern [I'll stop there]
Guys, we got a lot of new learning ahead! =D
Long live the Chip!
Design. Build. Drive. Fly.
Does this mean a new forum?

Re: Questions
It's basically in early alpha right now, nowhere near done. But yes, that's the gist of it, Runner. Let's just see where this leads us... although I'm sure that this will lead to new players, some new awesome models, and possibly a new forum in the future.
EDIT: By the way, the excel spreadsheet with the Lua functions on it for LB is in japanese, here's the english version: http://goo.gl/zzaxe
I was browsing the site through google translate, and it somehow translated an excel spreadsheet. Great!

Re: Questions
Wow, this is incredible. But I have to say I am traveling at the moment and have no laptop, only my iPhone. So when I get home, I will download LB from his site and have a look of my very own.
Trying not to get too excited about this, (shows in last post) but I was wondering if there is the Val to panekit function in LB or if there is more or less. Becuase of the amount to learn is a big factor in new people. What should we do?
