Maps
I know this was talked about on the other forum, and programs were sujested and used.
I know this has been said and thought of many times.
But now that ipbfree.forum is gone, we have to start over.
What I like to know is the programs we can use to create maps.
I for one, do not know of these program, so I cannot be of help.
I ask if we should/can create a basic tutorial and a list of programs we can use.
And if some programs need more attention than others, create private tutorials.
Any ideas, sujestions? Post 'em.

Re: Maps
Ok. I have never been a mape maker, Although I remember what was said on the old forums (or some of it, at least).
Metasequoia was a suggested program (I have no experience with it though).
Any program that can export to a .x file should be fine, however.

Haha, That was it. Metasequoia, but wasn't there the problem of once you turn the file/save the file as a playable map, you couldn't open it in Meta again?
I'll have a look around for programs shortly, I'm still editing and adding stuff to the advertisment video I'm making.

Re: Maps
I don't think you can edit .x files in metasequioa - just export. However, you could save and edit the map in one of metasequoia's native types, and just export to .x

Re: Maps
I managed to get Blender (in a round-about way) exporting RigidChips-compatible maps. You have to use Metaseq for the X export, but all the modelling could be done in Blender, which has many more features and is a lot more powerful (You can even script it in python, if you really wanted to )

Re: Maps
Metasequoia is far more confusing than how fustrating Lua is in rigidchips. Funny. But I'm getting somewhere.
I've also noticed that in Meta-, you can smooth the faces, should we smooth our maps?

Re: Maps
Smoothing faces takes many more surfaces... I don't know how much that would hurt RC, speed-wise.

Re: Maps
As long as you don't overdo it, you should be fine.
